about

Currently available from Sonic Oyster.

sonicoysterrecords.blogspot.ie

'Lots of fun random action here from David Colohan, working with Alison O’Donnell. A Burroughs-esque cut-up technique was applied to a selection of magazines, thus yielding song lyrics. The music, for duduk, whistles, modular synth and more, were also juxtaposed randomly. And yet! The resulting album, Hope Can Be A Barrier To Action, is remarkably successful as actual music as well as enjoyable experimentation. CDr on Sonic Oyster.' Norman Records

David Colohan - voice, duduk, alto saxophone, modified low whistle, tin whistles, clarina & modular synth

Alison O'Donnell - voice

These songs were generated using the cut-up technique on a pile of magazines, then sung immediately upon completion of the text, without any planning. The instrumental sections were similarly randomly placed together, with some synth overdubs. Alison then sang wherever she felt was appropriate.

Recording completed at Ryan Electronics, November 2016

'An eerie loveliness that should really be soundtracking a Werner Herzog film; indeed Popol Vuh’s work provides a useful reference point as, similar to Vuh, the music herein is almost religious in its solemnity and grace.' The Active Listener
